Welcome to my gallery where you can see the stories that I have created. From old doors, to found wood, to mixed medium, I am motivated and inspired to explore the materials and the characters/environments within. I look forward to sharing these with you. Thank you for stepping inside.
I paint on reclaimed doors and pieces of wood, combining imaginary images conjured up in my mind with past and present thoughts, experiences, and ideas, to tell stories from my life. I work with oil colors to achieve layers of intense saturated color and intricate detail beneath the outermost surface. The wood grain and layers of paint guide me as I tell and retell the stories using botanical and bodily forms.
I encourage and welcome commissions! I would love to create for you a unique one-of-a-kind piece. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas and we'll go from there.

I am particular with what it is I look for in the story and surface of a door before I allow it into my studio. Each door that has come across my path has arrived at the right time with certain characteristics that inspire me. My latest canvas is a door of approximately sixty years old with a very unique paint color. The door's individuality and the fact of the kind and generous gentleman who gave it to me creatively cut it up into unique sizes and shapes - these were the reasons for me to use it as my canvas. I am without a need for another for quite some time, as I have a wonderful door cut up, reinforced and ready for my attention.
I never imagined painting on pieces of old doors would open up such a wide variety of various people to tell me about their own stories and appreciations about a particular door or doors they have come across. Doors, I have found through listening to these stories, are a conversation piece, with a history all of their own to many...

The paintings found in this gallery are painted upon pieces of wood that struck me. Thankfully, not literally. The thickness of a piece, a burn mark, rough grain, etc., different characteristics that I look for to be just right - a sign of its history and previous life before it met Paint.
"Rosie's Ring" and "Fairy Thee Well" are oil on rose gold leaf (a recent direction of my work) on wood. I came to the idea one day of the two cast-iron pieces I had come across a few years ago that they would became the frame to paintings. Once the wood was cut to size, it all came together...

Awhile back I began having prints made of my work. Initially this allowed me to put together a portfolio of my images. As I continued with the line of thought of seeing my work in print form, I realized the potential. Not only could I offer prints of my work for sale, I could also continue the creative process on a particular piece.
My latest pieces began with three goals in mind: (1) I wanted to continue exploring the definition of layers on many different levels; (2) I wanted to continue to revisit and discover new worlds found within my completed oil paintings; (3) It became important to me to print my Giant Snippets™ upon natural or recycled materials. My more recent discoveries include a Thai Unryu paper (100% Kozo paper), which is made from the inner bark fibers of the Mulberry Tree, and fabric made from 100% recycled soda bottles woven into a fibrous weight. These new types of "canvas" intrigued me. The unique result was literally the tying together of nature with my imagery.

Some of the pieces found in this gallery are pieces that I have decided to keep so as to have a record of my creative process. Others I’ve decided to keep for their sentimental and/or symbolic nature. Together they make up my Artist Collection, insightful and interesting in and of itself.
These pieces aren’t for available for purchase in their original state, though please refer to my hand-embellished giclees for their availability in print form. Thank you for your interest.
